Iran: More Than 77,000 Deaths from Coronavirus in 347 Cities

The MEK Iran has announced on July 26, 2020 on their website that the death toll from the coronavirus in 347 cities in Iran had exceeded 77,000. The number of victims in the provinces of Tehran is 19,050, Khorassan-Razavi 5,755, Khouzistan 5,585, Mazandaran 3,495, Alborz 2,425, Fars 1930, Kerman 1110, Hormozgan 940 and Buchehr 835.

As MEK Iran has shared on their website, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health announced that the number of victims in the last 24 hours is 216, and patients in intensive care units (ICU) is 3,695. He told ISNA: “Two cities of Isfahan province are in the red, and eleven towns are on alert. The number of hospitalizations due to the coronavirus in this province, especially in crowded cities, is on the rise. In Tehran province, nine cities are on high alert, and the daily number of hospitalizations has doubled in the past month. In the cities of Tehran, Pakdasht, Damavand and Shahriyar, the number of hospitalizations is relatively high. In Tehran province, half of adult intensive care units are occupied by coronavirus patients. Our main concern is the illness and fatigue of medical personnel."

As the resistance unit, MEK Iran, further informs, Iraj Harirchi, Deputy Minister of Health, told the daily Entekhab: “The situation is not good at all (…) Almost the whole country is in the red (…) Hospitalizations had decreased in March. Now, we have 600 hospitalizations per day. In Tehran, we have around 4,500 beds available for hospitalization. It should be noted that as long as this trend continues, deaths will also increase. The coronavirus is a test for our actions. Any inappropriate health behavior manifests itself 5-7 days later in the number of outpatients, two or three weeks later in hospitalization, and four to six weeks later in deaths. Today, Tehran has become a hotbed of contagion throughout the country. There is a lot of displacement, especially in the provinces around Tehran, like Alborz and the northern cities (…) Anyone who moves from Tehran to the surrounding cities can infect other people."

In Tehran province, the director of Imam Reza hospital in Islamchahr told Fars agency recently: “Three wards in the hospital are full. There are many emergency room patients we cannot hospitalize. We have a lot of seriously ill people that no other hospital in Tehran accepts. The head of the Islamchahr Health and Treatment Network said: “In March 7% of people tested positive, in April 14% and in June 26%. In July, 30% tested positive. The continuation of this trend will be very dangerous."

In East Azerbaijan, the director of the Ahar health network told IRNA  yesterday: "The number of patients in Ahar last month has increased by more than 250%, and the number of hospitalizations by 400%. (…) All the departments of the Ahar hospital for coronavirus patients are saturated."
According to IRNA information from Mazandaran province yesterday, published on the news website of  MEK Iran, “The number of coronavirus patients in Babol has more than six-fold since peaking two months ago. To stop the rise in hospital admissions, restrictions were placed on Babol, but they failed to turn the tide."

According to FARS, public relations at the Shiraz Faculty of Medical Sciences reported the deaths of 17 patients in the past 24 hours, saying it was "the highest daily death rate in the province since start of the epidemic”.

MEK Iran also shared on their Twitter profile that the Javan daily reported today from Hormozgan: "400 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, 90 of them in intensive care units and 30 in critical condition. All parts of the province are in critical and high risk conditions, particularly in the west of the province and the islands of Qeshm and Kish."

Following Rouhani's declaration yesterday that "the ceremonies of the holy month of Moharram must be celebrated in every town and village, whatever their situation (red, yellow or virus-free)", Massih Mohajeri, editor-in-chief of the daily Jomhouri-Eslami and adviser to Rafsanjani and Khatami, wrote in the editorial today: “Mr. President, as the commander of the National Coronavirus Center (NCC), you are responsible for people's lives. It is obvious that these new decisions of the NPB will inflict the same disaster on the population as the lifting of health restrictions. Think about the bitter reality, that with these decisions a dark autumn awaits our country."
